New agreement with CHINADA
Anti-Doping Norway has extended its collaboration agreement with China’s anti-doping agency.
The first collaboration agreement was signed in 1996. The collaboration has included the development of a quality control system for doping controls, which resulted in ISO certification of doping controls in China in 2004, and the establishment of a national anti-doping organization in China, CHINADA, in 2008.
- Without doubt, this has been a success story, says Rune Andersen. Mr Andersen helped to establish the collaboration in the 1990s and is now the director of WADA.
- When we started, the idea of transferring competence and developing experience within the anti-doping field was completely new. Norway was a pioneer in introducing this type of agreement.
In 2001 China was awarded the 2008 Olympic Games. This was used as an important catalyst in ensuring well functioning anti-doping work in China. Under the new agreement, which runs until 2014, collaboration work on information, preventative work and doping controls will also be transferred.
