World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)

World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)

The World Anti-Doping Agency was established in 1999. Its tasks include harmonising anti-doping activities worldwide, defending the ethics of sports and guaranteeing the legal protection of athletes.

In 2003, the World Anti-Doping Code was approved. The WADA Code also includes International standards and Models of Best Practice.

Half of WADA’s financing comes from the International Olympic Committee and the other half from governments all over the world. WADA is headquartered in Montreal, Canada.

Governments have committed to support WADA activities through the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport.

The Norwegian Government was very active in the creation of WADA. Ever since WADA’s establishment, Anti-Doping Norway has had a close relationship with the Agency, and has contributed with its expertise and knowledge in many ways.

Anti-Doping Norway is a Member of WADA’s Education Committee and Health, Medical & Research Committee. Anti-Doping Norway has taken part in WADA’s Independent Observer Programme, and contributes to the development of standards and guidelines. In addition, Anti-Doping Norway conducts doping controls for WADA world-wide. Anti-Doping Norway has also organised, in collaboration with WADA, several international symposium/seminars.
