PRESS RELEASE - Moscow 8th of June, 2010

WADA and Anti-Doping Norway representatives acknowledge tangible results achieved by RUSADA

Rune Andersen, WADA Director for Standards and Harmonization and Anders Solheim, CEO of Anti-Doping Norway, acknowledged tangible results achieved by RUSADA and the success of the “Russian” scheme of trilateral cooperation with WADA participation aimed at developing NADOs worldwide.

This was the conclusion made by WADA and Anti-Doping Norway representatives in the course of the project meeting of representatives of WADA, Anti-Doping Norway and RUSADA which took place on the 26th-28th of May in Moscow. The meeting was a step forward to creation and implementing an anti-doping program fully compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards in Russia as well as RUSADA certification according to ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

In the course of the meeting RUSADA presented its Progress Report (May 2009-May 2010).

As pointed out by WADA and Anti-Doping Norway, the most important RUSADA achievements on the way of creating an effective anti-doping program in Russia were creating its own system of assessment of risks of doping abuse, setting up Independent Committees – TUE Committee and Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee, implementing the program of Athlete’s Biological Passport, transparent and active cooperation with international federations.

- Russia is an important sport nation. A genuine Russian involvement and contribution in the fight against doping in sport is important to achieve fair and drug-free sport. Our impression is that RUSADA is making good progress, commented Mr. Solheim.

Rune Andersen remarked that the scheme of trilateral cooperation with participation of RUSADA and Anti-Doping Norway was used in cooperation with Portugal and Brazil. On the 19th of May a similar agreement was signed and the work started.

- As the independent international organization responsible for monitoring the global fight against doping in sport, WADA encourages such partnerships and exchange of expertise between countries that have significant experience in the field and others that need assistance in developing anti-doping capacities in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, commented Mr. Andersen.

- We are pleased with the cooperation between Anti-Doping Norway and RUSADA and look forward to further contributing to this partnership in the coming months.

The following project meeting of representatives of RUSADA, WADA and Anti-Doping Norway will take place in September 2010. At the meeting RUSADA will present a report on developing ISO 9001 Quality Management System within the organization.
